Rio Rancho Mayor sets positive tone at State of the city address
We are thrilled to see how the new mayor of Rio Rancho has really hit the ground running. Over the past few years there has been quite a bit of turmoil in the city management and it's nice to see Mayor Swisstack pushing to get things going again. I feel that in the past year the city has been in a lull but with the new administration in place things should really start picking up with the many projects that need to get done. It's going to be difficult for the city to put together cohesive master plans because of the antiquated planting. But so far I give the mayor kudos for setting positive tone and really trying to move the city forward.

Here's a summary from the Observer article...
The Observer Online: "Mayor Tom Swisstack gives credit to the people of Rio Rancho for its growth.
“It’s really because of people like you,” Swisstack told the 400 or so gathered at the NAIOP ‘State of the City’ address on Monday, “that has made Rio Rancho the fastest growing city in New Mexico.”
To say that Swisstack is determined to put Rio Rancho on the map would be an understatement. He is not happy with Rio Rancho being the third largest and fastest growing city in New Mexico with 10,000 residents. Swisstack’s goal, according to his address on Monday, is for Rio Rancho to be the second largest city in New Mexico and to be aggressive in establishing economic diversity within city limits, not being content to use services available in west Albuquerque."

Rio Rancho Homes - Astante Villas Features Paired, Side-By-Side Homes
ABQJOURNAL HOMES: Astante Villas Features Paired, Side-By-Side Homes: "DR Horton, which bills itself as “America's Builder,” is determined to provide innovative residential design for master-planned communities. The builder's new Astante Villas community at Rio Rancho's Cabezon Communities lets home buyers choose to live in ways different from the suburban norm of one house, one family, one yard.
Instead, DR Horton's Astante Villas is a gated community featuring “paired” houses, what once might have been referred to as town homes or duplexes. Make no mistake, however, these are comfortable single-family homes that just happen to be built along a common property line in the middle. The result is a community in which public common green space is more prevalent than individual yards. It's a reality that makes many new homeowners smile as they spend weekend afternoons doing something other than yardwork."

Rio Rancho - More water? More wells.
More water? More wells. - New Mexico Business Weekly:: "Rio Rancho City Manager Jim Payne says there's no need to worry yet about the booming burg's water supply.
He said the city's wells are pumping at about 75 percent of their capacity, producing roughly 12,000 acre-feet of water per year. But the city has the authority to pump up to 28,000 acre-feet, and it can drill new wells as needed up to that limit.
So while nerves might have frayed in some cases due to the timing or expense of new water lines, Payne said the ultimate supply of water is adequate for a lot more growth. The city says water needs will be satisfied for all of the large projects now under way or contemplated."
